World4uFree: Hollywood, Bollywood and Hindi dubbed films, from The Dark Knight and 3 Idiots to Bāhubali

In January 2013 World4uFree was a bright red-and-white movie blog. A slab of metallic lettering spelled out its name, a red menu bar led to Hollywood, Bollywood and Hindi Dubbed Movies, a slider at the top showed the newest arrival, and a long column of posts announced films such as Fantastic Four and The Bourne Legacy in dual audio, each with a big blue button. For a whole generation of viewers in India and the diaspora it was a familiar name. World4uFree returns with that friendly blog look and a new job: every post introduces a film, with its stars and story, and a Watch now button that opens it on the official services in your country.

The World4uFree design

This World4uFree is rebuilt from the archived January 2013 capture of world4ufree.com, which ran on a WordPress theme called Stylo. Its style sheet, menu images and logo were measured: a white page, a warm red for the menu bar, the widget titles and the links, a steady blue for the big action button, pale greys for the borders and buttons, and the condensed Oswald typeface for every title. The original logo was a picture of metallic Western-style letters; this site uses an original slab wordmark in the same spirit, WORLD in dark metal, 4U in red and FREE in metal again.

The blog layout suits a film guide well: each post reads like a short introduction to one film, and the sidebar keeps the categories and the newest posts within reach.

The header and menus

At the very top, a slim page menu in small grey capitals leads to Home, Help, How to watch, Privacy and About, much as the 2013 page listed its disclaimer and contact pages. Below it, the header holds the wordmark on the left, a row of small coloured squares where the social buttons once were, and a search box on the right. Then comes the red menu bar, a warm gradient with a soft highlight, carrying Home, W4F Index, Hollywood, Bollywood, Hindi Dubbed, Cartoons, TV Series and My List in white Oswald capitals, each darkening slightly when you point at it. On a phone the menus fold behind a red button.

The featured panel

The top of the home page recreates the 2013 slider. A wide backdrop of the featured film fills the panel, with a small arrow on the left, and a dark caption band along the bottom gives the title, the year and a More link. Small dots in the top corner lead to the other featured films: Interstellar, 3 Idiots, Bāhubali: The Beginning, The Dark Knight, Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara and Finding Nemo. The panel shows one film at a time, so the page stays light and quick.

The blog posts

Below the featured panel come ten posts, mixing Bollywood, Hollywood, Hindi dubbed and cartoon favourites. Each post is a bordered box with the title in Oswald and the year in brackets, a grey line with the release date, a red category link and a Share link, then the poster beside a glossy blue Watch now button, the main stars and the start of the story. A grey Read more button in the corner, with red letters that turn white on red when you point at it, opens the full title page. It is the rhythm of the 2013 blog, with the download links replaced by a single, clear way to the official services.

The sidebar widgets

To the right of the posts, a 300-pixel sidebar holds four widgets, each under a rounded title box with red Oswald capitals, just like the Subscription and Recent Posts widgets of 2013. Recent posts lists the ten newest films, Categories lists every collection with its size, Top Bollywood shows six popular Hindi films as small posters, and My List reminds you that you can save your favourites. On a tablet the widgets move below the posts in two columns, and on a phone in one.

More shelves

After the posts and sidebar, three poster shelves round off the home page: more Hollywood favourites, eight cartoons, and eight TV series, each under a rounded red title that links to the full list. A block of help guides and this article follow, and the dark footer closes the page with links to every category.

A title page

Every post opens a title page with the poster, the title, the original title, the year, the running time, the genres and the story. A blue Watch now button and a dark Add to My List button follow, and the viewing panel lets you choose your country before opening JustWatch. The facts grid lists the release date, language, country and studio, and the cast follows. For the TV series, the page lists every season, and each season page lists every episode with its air date and summary.

Hollywood, 2005 to 2009

The Hollywood collection begins in the years World4uFree grew up in. Christopher Nolan's Batman Begins and The Dark Knight reinvented the superhero film, James Cameron's Avatar set new records for spectacle, and Iron Man and The Incredible Hulk launched the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2008. Spider-Man 3 closed Sam Raimi's trilogy, Inglourious Basterds rewrote history in Quentin Tarantino's style, and The Devil Wears Prada and Twilight became favourites of a different kind. The Harry Potter films grew darker with Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix and Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, and Captain Jack Sparrow sailed on in Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest and Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End.

Hollywood, 2010 to 2015

The early 2010s brought Inception, a heist inside dreams, Shutter Island, a mystery on a lonely island, and The Dark Knight Rises, the end of Nolan's trilogy. Marvel assembled its heroes in The Avengers and followed with Iron Man 2, Iron Man 3, Thor: The Dark World and Avengers: Age of Ultron, and The Amazing Spider-Man rebooted Peter Parker. Interstellar sent astronauts through a wormhole, Mad Max: Fury Road raced across the desert, and Whiplash, The Imitation Game and Django Unchained collected Oscars. The Harry Potter story ended with Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2, and The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1 and The Maze Runner thrilled younger audiences. The Hollywood guide has more.

Bollywood, 2008 to 2011

The Bollywood collection covers the golden years of World4uFree. In 2008 Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi paired Shah Rukh Khan and Anushka Sharma in a sweet story of a shy husband, Jodhaa Akbar brought Hrithik Roshan and Aishwarya Rai to the Mughal court, Ghajini made Aamir Khan an action hero with a memory that lasts minutes, and Race set brothers against each other in a stylish thriller. 3 Idiots arrived in 2009 and became one of the most loved Hindi films ever, and Luck by Chance, Wanted, Aladin and Kambakkht Ishq showed how varied the year was.

The next two years brought My Name Is Khan, Udaan, a quiet coming-of-age gem, Kites and Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai, and 2011 gave audiences Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, three friends on a road trip through Spain, Rockstar, Don 2, Ra.One, Bodyguard and Singham, Ajay Devgn's roaring police officer.

Bollywood, 2012 to 2015

From 2012, the hits kept coming. Barfi! told the joyful story of a deaf-mute man in Darjeeling, English Vinglish brought Sridevi back as a housewife who learns English in New York, and OMG: Oh My God! took a shopkeeper to court against God himself. Agneepath, Ek Tha Tiger, Rowdy Rathore, Jab Tak Hai Jaan, Cocktail and Student Of The Year filled cinemas the same year. 2013 brought Aashiqui 2, Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, Chennai Express, Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, the story of the sprinter Milkha Singh, The Lunchbox, Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela, Krrish 3, Dhoom 3, Race 2, Boss and the anthology Bombay Talkies.

2014 and 2015 closed the era with PK, Happy New Year, Bang Bang!, Bajrangi Bhaijaan, Baby, Drishyam, Dil Dhadakne Do, Phantom, Brothers, ABCD 2, Prem Ratan Dhan Payo, Dilwale and Bajirao Mastani, Sanjay Leela Bhansali's lavish historical romance. The Bollywood guide picks highlights.

Bollywood's stars

Search a star's name and the posts filter to their films. Shah Rukh Khan leads Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi, My Name Is Khan, Don 2, Jab Tak Hai Jaan, Chennai Express, Happy New Year and Dilwale. Aamir Khan leads Ghajini, 3 Idiots, Dhoom 3 and PK, and Salman Khan leads Wanted, Bodyguard, Ek Tha Tiger, Bajrangi Bhaijaan and Prem Ratan Dhan Payo. Hrithik Roshan leads Jodhaa Akbar, Kites, Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, Agneepath, Krrish 3 and Bang Bang!, and Akshay Kumar leads Rowdy Rathore, OMG: Oh My God!, Boss, Baby and Brothers.

Hindi dubbed Telugu films

Hindi Dubbed was one of the busiest categories on the 2013 blog, and South Indian films in Hindi remain hugely popular. S. S. Rajamouli leads the Telugu shelf: Eega turns a murdered man into a fly on a mission of revenge, and Bāhubali: The Beginning and Bāhubali 2: The Conclusion became national events in their Hindi versions. Mahesh Babu stars in Khaleja, Businessman, 1: Nenokkadine and Srimanthudu, Allu Arjun in Race Gurram, Son of Satyamurthy and DJ: Duvvada Jagannadham, and Prabhas in Rebel. Manam is a warm family fantasy that brings three generations of one acting family together, Yevadu is a revenge thriller with Ram Charan, and The Ghazi Attack dramatises a submarine confrontation of 1971.

Hindi dubbed Tamil films

The Tamil shelf is just as lively. Shankar's Enthiran pairs Rajinikanth with a robot double, and his I follows a bodybuilder's transformation. Vijay leads Thuppakki, Kaththi, Theri and Mersal, Suriya leads Singam 2 and 24, a time-travel thriller, and Ajith Kumar leads Mankatha. Thani Oruvan pits an honest officer against a brilliant villain, Vikram Vedha turns a cop-and-gangster duel into a moral puzzle, and Vishwaroopam is Kamal Haasan's spy thriller. For something smaller and deeply moving, Kaaka Muttai follows two slum boys who dream of tasting pizza, and Irudhi Suttru follows a boxing coach and his fiery pupil. The Hindi dubbed guide has more.

Cartoons

The 2013 blog had a Cartoon Hindi Dubbed category, and World4uFree keeps it as Cartoons: the animated films families love, most with a Hindi track on the major services. Pixar brings Monsters, Inc., Finding Nemo, The Incredibles, Cars, Ratatouille, WALL·E, Toy Story 3, Cars 2, Inside Out and The Good Dinosaur. DreamWorks brings Shrek, Shrek the Third and Shrek Forever After, Disney Lilo & Stitch, Tangled, Frozen and Big Hero 6, and Illumination Despicable Me. Corpse Bride and Coraline add stop-motion magic, and newer favourites such as The Wild Robot, Inside Out 2 and Puss in Boots: The Last Wish continue the tradition. The cartoons guide helps you choose.

TV series

The TV Series shelf holds thirteen English-language series from 2005 to 2015, each with every season and episode. Breaking Bad follows a chemistry teacher's descent into crime, Prison Break an engineer who breaks into prison to free his brother, and The Walking Dead a band of survivors in a zombie outbreak. The procedurals The Mentalist, Criminal Minds, Bones and The Blacklist solve a case each week, Doctor Who travels through time, The Flash and Arrow bring DC heroes to television, The Vampire Diaries brings romance and the supernatural, and The Office and Modern Family bring the laughs. The TV series guide suggests where to start.

Dual audio, then and now

World4uFree's name was tied to dual audio, films offered with both the original English track and a Hindi dub. Today that choice is built into the official services: most big Hollywood releases and South Indian hits on the platforms in India include a Hindi track, often with Tamil and Telugu too, alongside the original. Choose the language from the audio menu in the player, usually a speech-bubble icon, and switch at any time. English subtitles are available for nearly every Hindi film, and many services add Hindi, Tamil and Telugu subtitles. The Hindi audio, subtitles and quality guide explains the settings.

How Watch now works

The blue Watch now button is the bridge between World4uFree and the services that hold each film. On a title page, choose your country in the viewing panel: India, the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, the United Arab Emirates, Australia, Singapore, Malaysia, Nepal, Bangladesh, Pakistan, South Africa, New Zealand, Saudi Arabia or the Philippines. Press Watch now, and World4uFree opens the title on JustWatch, an independent guide that lists every official service offering it in that country, by subscription, rental, purchase or free. Choose one, and the film opens in that service's app or website. World4uFree remembers your country for next time. The how to watch guide walks through the steps.

Where the films stream

In India, JioHotstar carries Disney, Marvel, Pixar and many Hindi films, Netflix and Prime Video hold large Hindi, Hollywood and South Indian libraries, and ZEE5 and SonyLIV keep deep catalogues of Hindi classics. Outside India, the same films often appear on Netflix, Prime Video and South Asian services, and rental stores such as Apple TV, Google TV and Prime Video rent and sell many of them. JustWatch shows the current options for your country. The services page gives an overview.

Phones, TVs and set-top boxes

World4uFree works in any phone, tablet or computer browser, and adding it to your home screen makes it open like an app. The films play in the official apps of each service, installed from Google Play, the App Store or your TV's store. Fire TV sticks, Google TV, Apple TV, Airtel and Tata Play set-top boxes, game consoles and most smart TVs run the same apps, and Chromecast and AirPlay send the picture from your phone to the TV. The apps and devices page covers each option.

Remastered in HD and 4K

The 2013 blog advertised small file sizes; today the official services stream these films in HD, and many have been remastered in 4K. The Dark Knight, Inception, Interstellar and Avatar look better than ever, and the Bāhubali films shine on a big screen. Plan on about 5 Mbps for smooth HD and 15 to 25 Mbps for 4K, and on mobile data choose a lighter quality in the app settings or download a film over Wi-Fi first.

Free, legal options

Plenty of films from these years can be watched free and legally. JioHotstar and ZEE5 have free sections with older Hindi films and dubbed South Indian films, several Indian studios publish full films on their official YouTube channels, and ad-supported services carry a rotating selection of Hollywood titles. On every title page, the Watch now panel lists free options beside the paid ones for your country. The free movies page lists the main services.

My List

My List is the World4uFree watchlist. Press Add to My List on any title page and the film or series is saved in this browser, private to you. For the TV series, mark the episode you reached on a season page, and My List keeps your place. Export saves your list to a small file, and Import brings it back on another device. The My List page explains each button.

Finding a film

The search box in the header understands English titles, Hindi titles written in English letters and cast names: type Shah Rukh Khan for his films, or Rajamouli for Eega and the Bāhubali films. The red menu bar leads to Hollywood, Bollywood, Hindi Dubbed, Cartoons and TV Series, the Categories widget lists every collection, and the W4F Index lists every title from A to Z, just as the 2013 blog had its own index page. The finding a film guide collects every route.

Choosing a film

With films from Hollywood, Bollywood and the South side by side, a few questions help. Which language are you in the mood for? The menu keeps them apart. A family film or something for grown-ups? The Cartoons and Family categories make that easy. How did audiences react? The score on each title page, with the number of ratings behind it, shows how widely a film was enjoyed.

Ideas for a movie night

For a Bollywood classic night, pair 3 Idiots with Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara. For a Nolan evening, Batman Begins and The Dark Knight. For an epic South Indian weekend, Bāhubali: The Beginning and Bāhubali 2: The Conclusion back to back. For the family, Finding Nemo or Toy Story 3, and for a thriller, Drishyam or Thani Oruvan. For a feel-good evening, English Vinglish or Barfi!.

New releases

Although the catalogue centres on 2005 to 2015, a New releases shelf keeps today's favourites close: Dune, Dune: Part Two, Oppenheimer, Top Gun: Maverick, Avatar: The Way of Water, The Wild Robot and Project Hail Mary among them. The New releases page lists every film from 2020 onward.

Top rated

The Top rated collection gathers titles scored 7.8 or more out of 10 by at least three hundred viewers. From Bollywood come 3 Idiots, My Name Is Khan and Bajrangi Bhaijaan; from Hollywood The Dark Knight, Interstellar, Inception, Whiplash, Shutter Island and Django Unchained; from animation WALL·E, Monsters, Inc., Inside Out and Coraline; and among the series Breaking Bad, The Office and Criminal Minds. Open Top rated for the full list.

Recognising World4uFree

World4uFree is easy to recognise: a small grey page menu, the slab WORLD4UFREE wordmark with a red 4U, a red gradient menu bar with white Oswald capitals, a dark featured panel with a caption band, bordered posts with Oswald titles, blue Watch now buttons and grey Read more buttons, and a sidebar of rounded widgets with red titles. Bookmark the home page and add it to your phone's home screen. The official site page describes these details, and the site status page helps when a page is slow.

Safe streaming

A few habits keep streaming safe. Install apps only from Google Play, the App Store or your TV's own store, keep your devices updated, and give each service its own strong password with two-step sign-in switched on. Before you pay or sign in, check that the address bar shows the service's real name. World4uFree sends you to JustWatch, and JustWatch sends you to the official services, so each step stays on trusted ground. The streaming safely page has a short checklist.

Privacy

World4uFree keeps your data in your own browser. My List, your episode marks and your chosen country stay on your device, ready to clear at any time or move with Export and Import. Posters, stories, cast and episode details come from TMDB, and the viewing options come from JustWatch.

How the catalogue is chosen

The catalogue follows the categories of the 2013 blog. Hollywood films from 2005 to 2015 and Hindi films from 2008 to 2015 come first, chosen from the titles with the largest audiences on TMDB and checked by hand. Telugu and Tamil hits of the same years, animated classics and a small shelf of TV series follow, with a few recent favourites. The catalogue focuses on films and scripted series for a general audience, and leaves the adult and sex-comedy titles that some blogs of the period carried to other places.

A short history of World4uFree

World4uFree became one of the best-known movie blogs among Hindi-speaking viewers in the early 2010s, first at world4ufree.com and later at addresses such as world4ufree.ws, world4ufree.one and world4ufree.fun. Its archived January 2013 page shows the design this site keeps: the metallic wordmark, the red menu bar, the featured slider, the blog posts with their big blue buttons and the sidebar of rounded widgets. World4uFree today keeps that look and sends every film to the official services, in HD, in Hindi or English, on every screen.

A first visit

On a first visit, look at the featured film at the top, then scroll through the posts and pick one that catches your eye. Press the blue Watch now button, choose your country and see where the film streams. Browse the Categories widget for Bollywood, Hollywood, Hindi Dubbed and Cartoons, add a few films to My List, and pin World4uFree to your home screen.

Directors of the era

A handful of directors shaped the Hindi films of these years. Rajkumar Hirani made 3 Idiots and PK, comedies with a message that audiences took to heart. Zoya Akhtar made Luck by Chance, Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara and Dil Dhadakne Do, stylish stories of friendship and family. Rohit Shetty brought loud, colourful action with Singham, Chennai Express and Dilwale, Kabir Khan made Ek Tha Tiger, Bajrangi Bhaijaan and Phantom, and Sanjay Leela Bhansali made the lavish Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela and Bajirao Mastani. In the South, S. S. Rajamouli made Eega and the Bāhubali films, Shankar made Enthiran and I, and A. R. Murugadoss made Ghajini, Thuppakki and Kaththi.

From South to Hindi and back

These years saw many stories cross between languages. Ghajini and Rowdy Rathore remade South Indian hits for Hindi audiences, Singham reworked the Tamil police drama that also has its own sequel on the shelf, Singam 2, and Bodyguard and Drishyam brought Malayalam stories to Hindi cinema. Watching an original and its remake side by side is a fun way to see how different industries tell the same story, and the Watch now panel shows both where they are available.

Songs of the era

Music was a big part of the blog's appeal, and many films on the shelf are remembered first for their songs. A. R. Rahman's score for Rockstar and his music for Jodhaa Akbar are still widely played, Aashiqui 2 turned its love songs into the sound of 2013, and Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela and Bajirao Mastani filled weddings and parties with their dance numbers. Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi and Jab Tak Hai Jaan carry the classic Yash Raj romance sound.

Sport and true stories

Several films tell real or sporting stories. Bhaag Milkha Bhaag follows the sprinter Milkha Singh from the partition of India to the Olympic track, Irudhi Suttru follows a boxing coach and his fiery pupil, and Brothers brings mixed martial arts into a family drama. The Ghazi Attack draws on a naval confrontation of 1971, and from Hollywood, The Imitation Game tells the story of Alan Turing and the Enigma code.

Romance

Love stories fill the Romance collection. Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi follows a shy husband who becomes a flamboyant alter ego to win his wife's heart, Jab Tak Hai Jaan was Yash Chopra's last film as director, and Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani follows friends who meet again at a wedding years after a trek in the mountains. Aashiqui 2 and Barfi! are tender and bittersweet, and from the South, O Kadhal Kanmani follows a young couple in modern Mumbai. From Hollywood, The Devil Wears Prada and Twilight were favourites with a different audience.

Action

Action fans will find plenty on World4uFree. Don 2 takes Shah Rukh Khan to Berlin for a daring heist, Dhoom 3 follows a circus performer turned thief in Chicago, Race and Race 2 are glossy thrillers full of twists, and Agneepath and Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai bring gangster drama. From the South, Thuppakki, Mankatha, Theeran Adhigaaram Ondru and Vishwaroopam are gripping, and from Hollywood, Mad Max: Fury Road and World War Z deliver spectacle.

Comedy

For lighter evenings, 3 Idiots, PK and OMG: Oh My God! mix laughs with ideas, Chennai Express sends a Mumbai man on a hilarious detour through Tamil Nadu, and Happy New Year stages a dance-contest heist in Dubai. Hello, Aladin and Billu offer gentler fun, and Kambakkht Ishq is a loud romantic comedy set in Hollywood. The Cartoons shelf adds Despicable Me and the Shrek films for the whole family.

A Harry Potter marathon

Six of the Harry Potter films are on the Hollywood shelf, from Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire to Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2, and many are available with Hindi audio. They make a perfect holiday marathon: watch them in order over a long weekend, with Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix and Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince in the middle and the two-part finale as the grand ending.

The first Marvel films

The Marvel Cinematic Universe began in the World4uFree years. Iron Man and The Incredible Hulk opened it in 2008, Iron Man 2 followed, The Avengers brought the heroes together in 2012, and Iron Man 3, Thor: The Dark World and Avengers: Age of Ultron continued the story. Newer chapters such as Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse sit on the New releases shelf.

A week with World4uFree

Here is one way to spend a week with World4uFree. On Monday, watch English Vinglish. On Tuesday, try Inception. On Wednesday, go South with Eega. On Thursday, catch the first episodes of Prison Break. On Friday, invite friends for Dhoom 3 or Don 2. On Saturday, settle in for Bāhubali: The Beginning, and on Sunday, relax with the family and Finding Nemo. Add each title to My List and tick them off as the week goes on.

3 Idiots and the Hirani touch

Few Hindi films are as loved as 3 Idiots. Aamir Khan plays Rancho, an engineering student who questions every rule of his strict college, alongside his two best friends, played by R. Madhavan and Sharman Joshi. The film mixes big laughs, catchy songs and a heartfelt message about learning for the joy of it, and it became one of the highest-grossing Indian films of its time, with fans far beyond India. Rajkumar Hirani returned five years later with PK, in which Aamir Khan plays a visitor from another planet who questions the customs of everyday life.

Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara

Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara follows three childhood friends, played by Hrithik Roshan, Farhan Akhtar and Abhay Deol, on a bachelor road trip through Spain, where each has chosen an adventure sport for the others to face. Between skydiving, deep-sea diving and the running of the bulls, they confront their fears and their friendships. Zoya Akhtar's film, with its sunny locations and poems recited by Javed Akhtar, became a generation's favourite and is ideal for an evening with friends.

The Bāhubali films

S. S. Rajamouli's Bāhubali: The Beginning and Bāhubali 2: The Conclusion changed Indian cinema. Prabhas plays both a legendary prince and the son who rediscovers his destiny, with Rana Daggubati as the jealous rival for the throne of Mahishmati. The waterfall climb, the great battles and the question that audiences asked for two years, why Kattappa killed Bāhubali, made the films national events, and their Hindi versions reached audiences who had rarely watched Telugu films before.

Pixar in the World4uFree years

The Cartoons shelf is a tour of Pixar's greatest run. Monsters, Inc. opened the door to a world of friendly monsters in 2001, Finding Nemo followed a father fish across the ocean, and The Incredibles gave a superhero family a suburban life. Cars raced along Route 66, Ratatouille put a rat in a Paris kitchen, WALL·E sent a lonely robot into space, and Toy Story 3 brought many grown-up viewers to tears. Inside Out visited the emotions in a young girl's mind, and Cars 2 and The Good Dinosaur complete the shelf.

Festival releases

Hindi films of these years followed the festival calendar. Eid became the date for Salman Khan's films, from Wanted and Bodyguard to Ek Tha Tiger and Bajrangi Bhaijaan, while Diwali brought big star films such as Ra.One, Jab Tak Hai Jaan, Happy New Year and Prem Ratan Dhan Payo. Christmas added a final blockbuster, from 3 Idiots to Dhoom 3 and PK. Watching them today, you can almost feel the excitement of those holiday weekends.

Christopher Nolan's films

Christopher Nolan's films are among the most popular on the Hollywood shelf, and several are available with Hindi audio. Batman Begins rebuilt the Batman story in 2005, The Dark Knight became one of the most acclaimed films of its decade thanks to Heath Ledger's Joker, and The Dark Knight Rises closed the trilogy. Inception follows a team of thieves into layered dreams, Interstellar sends a crew through a wormhole to save humanity, and Oppenheimer, on the New releases shelf, finally won him the Oscar for Best Director.

Thrillers with a twist

Some of the best films on the shelf are clever thrillers. Drishyam follows a cable operator who builds a perfect alibi to protect his family, Thani Oruvan pits an honest officer against a brilliant villain, and Vikram Vedha retells an old folk tale as a duel between a policeman and a gangster. Shutter Island and Inception keep Hollywood audiences guessing, and Baby follows an elite counter-terror unit on a tense mission. Each rewards close attention and a second viewing.

Bingeing the TV series

The TV Series shelf is small but full of long-running favourites. Breaking Bad and Prison Break are complete stories best watched in order, The Walking Dead runs for eleven seasons, and procedurals such as Criminal Minds, Bones and The Mentalist can be dipped into at almost any episode. Doctor Who offers standalone adventures in time and space, and The Office and Modern Family are ideal for a relaxed half hour. Mark each episode as you go, and My List keeps your place.

Reading the scores

Every title page shows a TMDB score out of ten and the number of ratings behind it. Hollywood films from these years have tens of thousands of ratings, so their scores are steady, while Hindi and South Indian films are rated by a smaller but passionate audience. A high score with many ratings, like The Dark Knight or 3 Idiots, signals a film that pleases almost everyone. Use the score as a friendly signpost and trust your own taste.

Watching together

Many of these films are made for family evenings. A Pixar film or a Shrek brings children and parents together, 3 Idiots and Bajrangi Bhaijaan suit every age, and a Harry Potter marathon fills a long weekend. Friends can plan a Bāhubali double bill or a Nolan night. Most streaming apps offer separate profiles, and My List can be exported from one device and imported on another so everyone knows what is next.

Watching from abroad

World4uFree always had a large audience outside India, among families in the Gulf, Britain, North America, South-East Asia and neighbouring countries. The viewing panel covers fifteen countries, so choose yours once and every title page shows the services available where you live. Many Hindi films now reach international services within weeks of their release in India, and South Asian services abroad carry many of the classics.

Rajinikanth, Vijay and the Tamil stars

The Tamil stars of these years have huge fan followings across India. Rajinikanth leads Enthiran, a science-fiction spectacle in which he plays both a scientist and his robot creation, and Kabali, a gangster drama set in Malaysia. Vijay leads Thuppakki, Kaththi, Theri and Mersal, each a crowd-pleasing mix of action, songs and social message. Suriya leads Singam 2 and 24, Karthi leads Theeran Adhigaaram Ondru, a police thriller based on real events, and Dhanush and Shruti Haasan lead the romantic drama 3.

Mahesh Babu and Allu Arjun

Two Telugu stars dominate the dubbed shelf. Mahesh Babu leads Khaleja, a comic adventure, Businessman, a gangster story set in Mumbai, 1: Nenokkadine, a psychological thriller, and Srimanthudu, in which a rich heir adopts a village. Allu Arjun leads Race Gurram, a lively comedy about two brothers, Son of Satyamurthy, a family drama about honour, and DJ: Duvvada Jagannadham, an action comedy. Their Hindi versions have been watched by millions on television and streaming.

For younger viewers

For younger viewers, the Cartoons shelf is the natural start: Finding Nemo, Monsters, Inc., Toy Story 3, Frozen, Tangled and Despicable Me are bright, funny and full of heart, and many are available in Hindi. Older children often enjoy Eega, superhero adventures such as Krrish 3, and the Harry Potter films. Check the certificate on each streaming service before pressing play.

Worth watching again

Some films reward a second viewing. Drishyam plants its clues from the very first scenes, Inception and Shutter Island read differently once you know their endings, and Vikram Vedha layers its story like a riddle. 3 Idiots and Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara are comfort films that many viewers return to every year.

Sharing a film

Every World4uFree page has a clean, stable address, so sharing a film is as simple as copying the link and sending it on. The link opens the same post, with its poster, story and Watch now button, and your friend can choose their own country to see where it streams for them.

Slower connections

World4uFree is designed to be light: posters are compressed, pages load quickly, and the home page shows the featured film and the posts first. On the streaming services, a lower quality setting keeps playback smooth on mobile data, and downloading a film over Wi-Fi is a good idea before a journey. The quality guide explains the settings.

Quiet gems

Among the big star films, the shelf holds some quieter gems. English Vinglish follows a housewife who secretly takes an English course in New York and wins back her family's respect, with Sridevi in a much-loved comeback. The Lunchbox tells of a lonely widower and a young wife who exchange letters through a mistaken lunch delivery in Mumbai, Udaan follows a teenager who dreams of writing under a strict father, and Kaaka Muttai follows two brothers from a Chennai slum on a quest to taste pizza. These films are proof that a small story can stay with you for years.

Disney and DreamWorks

Beyond Pixar, the Cartoons shelf holds Disney's Lilo & Stitch, Tangled, Frozen and Big Hero 6, DreamWorks' Shrek, Shrek the Third and Shrek Forever After, and Illumination's Despicable Me, the film that introduced the Minions. Tim Burton's Corpse Bride and Henry Selick's Coraline bring the gothic charm of stop-motion animation, a lovely change of style for older children.

Cinema at home

A few touches make an evening at home feel like a trip to the cinema. Dim the lights, switch the television to its film picture mode, and turn off motion smoothing so films keep their natural look. Use a soundbar or good headphones for films with big soundtracks, such as Interstellar, Avatar or the Bāhubali films, and choose the 4K version where your plan and connection allow.

Sanjay Leela Bhansali's spectacles

Sanjay Leela Bhansali makes some of the most lavish films in Hindi cinema, and two of them are here. Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela sets a Romeo-and-Juliet romance between two feuding Gujarati clans, with Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone and a riot of colour and dance. Bajirao Mastani reunites the pair in the story of the eighteenth-century Maratha general Bajirao and the warrior princess Mastani, with enormous sets, sweeping battles and songs that became instant classics. Both are made for the biggest screen in the house.

Dance on screen

Dance runs through the Bollywood shelf. ABCD 2 follows a Mumbai dance crew all the way to a world competition in Las Vegas, Happy New Year hides a heist inside a dance contest, and the song sequences of Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani and Dilwale became party favourites. From the South, the Telugu hits of Allu Arjun, famous for his dancing, bring the same energy.

Salman Khan's Eid hits

Salman Khan's films became a festival tradition in these years. Wanted relaunched him as an action hero in 2009, Bodyguard paired him with Kareena Kapoor Khan in a romantic action drama, and Ek Tha Tiger made him a spy on the run with Katrina Kaif. Bajrangi Bhaijaan, in which he walks a lost little girl home across the border, is his most moving film, and Prem Ratan Dhan Payo is a warm family entertainer from Sooraj Barjatya. Together they show why each of his releases felt like a holiday.
